A week ago, our child was touched by the hand of God. Then at that moment, at that instant, our child… our love child had his or her first heartbeat.
When she told me, I felt the urge to cry. I knew not what to say. A sudden surge of emotions charged within my heart and made my way towards her, my beloved, the soon to be mother of our love child. I wanted to scream, I want to yell, to jump like a wild monkey, a crazy fool, like the careless spirited kid of my youth. But I could not. No, instead, I closed my eyes, and unleashed my joy in the arms of my beloved, my Monica. I hugged her. Held her tight to me, where she belonged. With yearning eyes, I looked at the opened windows of her soul and I searched for him, or her, who was in her, in her womb, wanting to reach him with my hands, wanting to touch his or her face. I searched for that child who knows God in His perfection better than we do. God has said “I knew you before you were in the womb.” And now, his or her heart beat is proof, yet again, of God’s love. God has blessed us with the greatest of gifts. She and I have nourished our love and now life has come from it.
Oh child, I loved you before you were made. Before my flesh became part of hers. I have often spoken your name with distant longing to see you running towards us. And now you are here, you are a part of us, in flesh and blood. My child, our love, my little son Alexander or beautiful Venice, we await your gentle yawns, your sweet face, the gifts of autumn, of springs, of late nights, of lullabies, of the unmistakable light and happiness that you bring to us like gifts from God. My child, you were made with the purest of love. She and I could not have made you any other way.

I wanted to congratulate you both for your wonderful news! I can’t tell you how it feels to become a parent. But I can tell you that being pregnant makes one realize what a blessing and privilege it is to carry the biggest gift God can give us. When I read the scripture you shared from Jeremiah 1:5, it truly touched my heart to see that our Heavenly Father shared with you the same scripture He shared with us. I remember reading that scripture the day after we found out I was expecting and it touched my heart to the point that it broke me down into tears.

I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words, advice, support and prayers. It is indeed a wonderful time in our lives and we are very happy to share this news with our friends. I am working on a journal right now to keep everyone up to date on what’s going on with me and the baby (of course it won’t have the beautiful words that Alex uses) but you will be able to know what is going on; the first entry will be posted soon. Mike and I just want to tell you how happy we are to hear that you are expecting a little Downs lol. As you heard, we are found out Tuesday that the peanut is another boy due on or about 24 July. Alexander is really excited to be a big brother too.
Anywho, it would be nice to have a little baby girl Downs but no matter what, Mike and I have open arms for your little bundle of screams…oops I mean dreams.

WEEE!!! i am so excited for you two! this is the best news ever! I have no doubt that this will be the most beautiful, healthy, perfect latin baby. A little guy (or girl) with Monica’s beauty and Alex’s sense of humor. This baby will know it’s loved even before it’s born- the apple of his/her grandparents’ eyes and the center of your world. Not only that, but it will grow up seeing your love for each other. You two will be amazing parents. Monica, you are so beautiful already and i can’t wait to see how you glow in motherhood. Alex, you still look and act like a kid. I know that you’ll be the most fun, attentive father this kid could ever wish for. YAY i love babies. And in the future, if/when i’m nearby, please let me babysit! (i have to teach the little one how to be a haus) Congratulations!
